I had the same problem with Debian lenny, but used a slightly different solution:
$ThisLine =~ s/^... ... .. ..:..:.. .... -> //; # Remove timestamps Andrew -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
