Gentlemen: I ran into the same problem today (10/04/2010) doing a net install of squeeze. I found that if I brought up the editor, and deleted the entire line "search --no-floppy ...." that I could then proceed to boot the system. The system is a Dell PowerEdge 2650, dual xeon with a raid 5 array hanging off an Adaptec aacraid controller. I solved my problem by using dselect to purge grub-pc and installing grub-legacy.
