Error: SCSI subsystem not active There is some resistance from the kernel team to enabling this option, so perhaps it would be better to use the new kernel interface, whatever that is. Ben Hutchings suggested writing to /sys/bus/scsi/devices/host*/scsi_host/host*/scan, but at least on 2.6.32-bpo.5-amd64 on this LSI ServeRAID M5015 SAS/SATA Controller (1000:0079) that didn't do anything.
