I have a Lenovo thinkpad w500. I turn off the touchpad in gpointing devices. Within a very short time(seconds or minutes) the touchpad becomes active again. I look in the gpointing devices gui and the checkbox is checked to turn the touchpad off. I click on the checkbox to remove the check then check the box again and the touchpad turns off again. Within a short time the touchpad is active again. I am not plugging in any external mice or sleeping or hibernating of anything when the touchpad becomes active again.
