When I reported this problem, on 28 March 2005, the /dev/hdd* were not created after boot. Now they are created. I did not do anything special appart from installing the updates when they became available for the "testing" distribution.
Which version are you running? There have been many changes since the
version in sarge, please test the udev package from unstable.
Anyway, nobody else reported such a problem so it's probably not an udev
bug. Did you change anything in the default rules files?

I am still running the version from Sarge (udev version 0.056-3). When Sarge became "stable", I have moved to the "stable" distribution.

Last saturday (i.e. before I received your mail), I have tried to install the "testing" distribution again, but I did not succeed. So, I reinstalled "Sarge". Maybe, I was too impatient, but it has the advantage that I can confirm, that with a "fresh" installation of "Sarge" (so, also "fresh" /etc/udev), I still observe the same behaviour, i.e. the /dev/hdd* device nodes are created, /dev/hdd with minor "64" and all the other /dev/hdd* with minor "65".

Today, I have tried to upgrade "udev" to "unstable", but that failed, because it also needs a new version of the kernel. I will retry to install the latest version later this week and I will report back to you before Monday 29th August.

Kind regards,
