Package: xbindkeys
Version: 1.7.1-1
Severity: wishlist

xbindkey is a gem -- extremely easy to configure and with powerful capabilities

Bug:

  * My version doesn't have an AUTHORS file

Wishlist:

  * OSD (along the lines done by hotkeys)
  * For KDE, a port to QT would be great

Incidentally, why is "wish" listed under "suggests"? I don't see a wish package.

Related utilities:

 * hotkeys is excellent, but lacks a frontend and doesn't support mode keys
 * xmodmaps is impenetrable -- is it possible to bind scripts to functions?
 *  keylaunch -- I didn't see a way of using keycodes; my key doesn't have a
keysym
 * hotkey-setup -- great, but it doesn't assign functions (or see my key)
 * xkeycaps -- no keyboard shows my key
 * kcmshell khotkeys -- doesn't see my key
 *  gnome-control-center / acme -- supposedly works, but I don't see how

The linux console tools in the kbd package are great (replacing console-tools),
though
this whole field is arcane. In brief, I used

        setkeycodes e023 155

which xev sees as keycode 236 and xbindkeys assigns functions to at will.
