Hi! There is this new Juju stack, so ieee1394 and raw1394 are clearly no longer needed.
Instead, each device shows up as /dev/fw*, and udev is required to set the right permissions. I don't know (but have already asked) which is the minimum required kernel and libraw1394 version to make kino work, but at least on my 2.6.36 with libraw1394-2.0.6, it's working. (ok, forget this comment, 2.6.36 and 2.0.6 is clearly "newest everything" as of today) ;) Could you try to chmod 666 /dev/fw* and run kino again? If this works, then it's simply a permission problem. You could also try to install the libffado2 package, it contains an udev-file which sets the permissions correctly.
