re: #560860: the inclusion of a set of avahi configuration options in the shipped mpd.conf is especially confusing given that it doesn't seem to be compiled with avahi support. uncommenting those config options has no effect. and mpd doesn't seem to report them as errors either, which makes it a silent failure :(
