Do you have an idea why other applications (or even many other features
of LyX) handle properly accented file paths on Lenny ?
I'm very far from being an expert on Debian but this suggests to me that
there may indeed be some changes to be done in the LyX package (in the
source code of tex2lyx), possibly including versions >=1.6.7
