Hi Olaf,

OK, you have reported two things:

| Could FS ACLs be enabled (acl package installed,

This is not my call, and not a bug in the ACL package ...
and I'm not sure who determines what packages are essential
and always installed ... perhaps a query to the installer
folks?

| acl option in fstab)
| by default (right after standard Debian install))?

Some filesystems support ACLs with no options (e.g. XFS),
whereas others need special mount options ... you can either
choose a filesystem which supports ACLs by default already,
or ask the installer team to add this functionality. But,
neither are things that the ACL package can help with.

| POSIX access control isn't enough anymore (IMO), so it
| would be nice to have ACLs available when necessary.

I don't know, wont hurt to ask, but I wonder if the installer
team will consider that sufficient justification.

Anyway, these things cannot be addressed by the acl package,
I'm afraid... hence, your original report fell by the wayside
(my bad, shoulda replied earlier to set expectations for you).

cheers.
