There are also a handful of alternatives for manipulating the rc links centrally, so that changes made previously are not forgotten when you go back to check later. Package choices include rcconf, sysv-rc-conf, file-rc. Since these facilities exist, I'll revert the /etc/default/Xprint changes soon (i.e. remove them), closing this bug.
