Jonas,

No conversation outside of this bug report.

In connection with lenny to squeeze upgrade, I was following the
recommendation to upgrade lenny to make it current. The result was
that the upgrade proceeded until the netatalk package began upgrading.
From my point of view, it created an error which aborted the
remainder of the upgrade of the other packages following netatalk.

I was not able in reinstall, remove (for a reinstall) netatalk.
However, I found that I could finish the upgrade of the packages
following netatalk by :
 dpkg --configure --pending

Any following "apt-get install foo" would hang on the installation of
packages when netatalk was hit in the list. The installation of "foo"
must be completed with " dpkg --configure --pending " to get past
netatalk.

I went ahead with the lenny to squeeze upgrade. The Netalk symptom
carried over to squeeze. That is, when doing an apt-get install, I had
to force a completion with "dpkg --configure --pending"

In an attempt to get you some of the output, this morning, I am
pleased to report that netatalk has finally upgraded in squeeze, like
is should have in lenny (or even squeeze) a week ago. That means I no
longer have the symptoms. I am now able to "apt-get install" without
hanging. I do NOT have to "dpkg --configure --pending" anymore.
Netatalk seems to have upgraded in connection with a test "apt-get
remove" followed by "apt-get install" of a package other than
netatalk.

Here is some of the output from my removal and reinstall of a random
package, which no longer hangs:

This seems to have solved itself for me. Although, I don't know what
it does for you.

Thank you for your interest in this problem,
