Hello,
I'm often playing around with symlinks, and I was hit with the
following emacs bug. Just run the following commands:
mkdir -p a/b/c
mkdir -p a/b/d
echo a > a/b/c/file
ln -s a/b/d
emacs d/../c/file
This starts emacs with an empty file, whereas all other commands
will give the proper answer, such as
~ cat d/../c/file
a
The thing is that emacs interprets .. as meaning "remove the topmost
directory from pwd". This is wrong (that's not what the kernel does
when opening files, it just follows the .. hard link; that isn't quite
the same).
