Recently i had a server running testing rebooted which has the same exact symptoms. On 2010-06-04, date of the previous reboot, the boot log contained data, but now the file is not updated anymore.

Looking at this BR, and as this machine has a separate /var and /var/log, i reconfigured bootlogd to log on /, like Dominique did, and everything worked again.

I could not find any error message from bootlogd at boot time, but it may be linked to the switch to insserv as it only requires mountdevsubfs to start and at least $local_fs is needed in this case.
