Unfortunately we failed to pursue this in time before the squeeze
freeze, but ncurses 5.7+20101128-1 (currently sitting in NEW and
targeted at experimental) does have the mlterm and mlterm-256color
terminfo entries in ncurses-term. There is also a Replaces+Breaks
against mlterm-common (<< 3.0.1-4), sid has mlterm 3.0.1-3.

If you like, you can re-add the necessary changes to mlterm git and
upload 3.0.1-4 to experimental (but not to unstable) when ncurses gets
accepted. Adding a NEWS.Debian entry informing people who want to have
256-color support that they need to set TERM=mlterm-256color for that
might also be good.

If you don't want to do this now but wait until the squeeze release,
that's also fine, but please keep us informed about mlterm uploads to
sid so that we can adjust the version in the Replaces+Breaks combination
in ncurses-term.

Cheers,
       Sven
