Package: libsmbios2
Hi Jose and cie
Hope you're all going well.
Assuming you 're all busy as "squeeze" coming soon, i won't be too pushy but
libsmbios2 hasn't been maintained for the last 2 years and now got the
deprecated 2.0.3 version for any Debian distro (stable, testing and unstable ).
At the same time, the upstream project has release 25 new versions and is now at
version 2.2.26 which Unbuntu as successfully packaged
PACKAGES : libsmbios2,
<http://packages.debian.org/libsmbios-bin><http://packages.debian.org/libsmbios-dev>libsmbios-bin,
libsmbios-dev, libsmbios-doc
SOURCE PACKAGE : libsmbios
(http://packages.qa.debian.org/libs/libsmbios.html)
debian current version (whatever the debian distro is) : 2.0.3 (
Ubuntu current stable version : 2.2.26
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libsmbios)
Upsrteam current stable version : 2.2.26
(http://linux.dell.com/libsmbios/download/libsmbios/)
Impacts:
The impacts of staying on 2.0.3 deprecated version has been higher and higher
for hoster like me dealing with the last servers hardware(controller, bios, ..).
For instance dealing with the last dell raid controller H700 has become
impossible with this deprecated version.
All my server farm is on Debian and i'm not willing to backport Ubuntu package
to Debian forever.
Jose : Do you mind get it up to date for at least the unstable branch as Squeeze
already past the freeze point.
Kind regards, Aurélien
