I forgot to mention some important facts. When the bug occurs, the display is frozen, and the computer do not accept keyboard inputs any more, even Ctrl-Alt-F* to switch to a TTY. The only keys that work are the "magic keys" Alt-PrintScreen-* (I can do Alt-PrintScreen-s, u, b to reboot).
*But* the system is not totally frozen. I can SSH the machine and reboot it (but it takes sometimes decades for the machine to actually reboot and show me the BIOS). Killing the qemu/kvm process (with SIGKILL, SIGTERM does not work) is useless. Killing X processes does not help either. And just in case, my window manager is Fluxbox.
