This definitely works fine for me on unstable. Can you please run
"ltrace muse", or even better, rebuild muse with debugging symbols
("export DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS="nostrip"; dpkg-buildpackage ..."), start it
in gdb, and print out a backtrace when it has crashed? You'll have to
start muse (and jackd) as root in these cases because an ordinary user
cannot trace suid binaries.
