Yeah. The sans.png and arial.png look just fine to me --- I agree.

Now I checked with your ps files. Except for the fact that Okular simply 
doesn't antialias PS files here, the font rendering in the PS files 
seems fine to me --- at least if I zoom close enough to the fonts. After 
converting the files to PDF they even get antialiased ;).

Fortunately, I noticed my ghostscript version was from experimental 
before I submitted the bug report. Okular now does show PS files with 
the GS version from sid --- but the fonts aren't antialiased, hmm…
