Hi... some further info to finish and clear this up.... The version of SLiM in Squeeze does support PAM but for some curious reason does not create the appropriate file in /etc/pam.d
The user must create a file called 'slim' in /etc/pam.d/ and place the following line in it: session required pam_limits.so This fixes the jack -rt permissions issue with SLiM login manager.
