The following shell line does not work anymore:
a=$(timeout 10 bash -c "read a; echo \$a")

I expect, that when I type something within 10 secs, the
command returns immediatelly and I can see what i typed
with echo $a.

It workes with the timeout version 1.11-6.5 from lenny.
Also when I compile 1.11-6.5 in squeeze it works again.
