today i upgraded our print server, and printing stopped working. In logs I had entries like: E [08/Feb/2011:13:35:02 +0100] Request from "10.0.1.244" using invalid Host: field "printserver.example.com" E [08/Feb/2011:14:09:16 +0100] Request from "10.0.3.24" using invalid Host: field "romeo-internal.example.com" E [08/Feb/2011:14:09:20 +0100] Request from "10.0.2.5" using invalid Host: field "printserver.example.com" E [08/Feb/2011:14:12:00 +0100] Request from "10.0.2.15" using invalid Host: field "romeo.example.com" E [08/Feb/2011:14:12:22 +0100] Request from "10.0.2.5" using invalid Host: field "printserver" which are all essentially valid names, as they points to the same machine, or are CNAME aliases in DNS to the same IP actually. Also libc domain/search goes into account here (printserver actually resolves as printserver.example.com). In my case adding ServerAlias * to cupsd.conf solved problem. But indeed before this, after i upgraded print server, all clients couldn't print or even lists printers. Adding only HostNameLookups on resulted still in error E [08/Feb/2011:14:13:57 +0100] Request from "tytus.local" using invalid Host: field "printserver.example.com" (as expected, because this options doesn't have nothing in common with Host field AFAIK) What is strange is that tytus.local should be tytus.example.com, as it normally reversely resolved: # getent hosts 10.0.2.5 10.0.2.5 tytus.example.com # I blame Avahi, but do not have proof yet. So how about adding small not in the release notes chapter 5?
