Package: jabberd14 Version: 1.6.1.1-5+b1 Severity: normal jabberd error reporting is nearly non-existing. For example, access denied opening user profile .xml file is silently ignored (returning "unauthorized" to client without a way to understand what's wrong, only strace on the server helps). Another example is #256622. When initializing network connections and socket() fails (see #579945), instead of providing at least errno code it suggests that this is due to another server is running, which is stupid.
Severity is at least normal not a wishlist, since there are numerous other issues which can be only diagnosed using a hammer (strace) without at least minimal attempt for error reporting. -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0 APT prefers stable APT policy: (990, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-i686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=, LC_CTYPE= (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages jabberd14 depends on: ii adduser 3.112+nmu2 add and remove users and groups ii libc6 2.11.2-10 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libgcc1 1:4.4.5-8 GCC support library ii libidn11 1.15-2 GNU Libidn library, implementation ii libjabberd2 1.6.1.1-5+b1 Runtime library for the Jabber/XMP ii libmysqlclient16 5.1.49-3 MySQL database client library ii libpopt0 1.16-1 lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii libpq5 8.4.7-0squeeze2 PostgreSQL C client library ii libpth20 2.0.7-16 The GNU Portable Threads ii libstdc++6 4.4.5-8 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii lsb-base 3.2-23.2squeeze1 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii openssl 0.9.8o-4 Secure Socket Layer (SSL) binary a jabberd14 recommends no packages. jabberd14 suggests no packages. -- Configuration Files: /etc/default/jabberd14 changed [not included] /etc/jabber/jabber.xml [Errno 13] Permission denied: u'/etc/jabber/jabber.xml' -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
