No. The problem is gone and I cannot reproduce it as I haven't kept the old dictionary. I now see the configuration script run aspell-autobuildhash during the reinstallation. That may be all that is required to fix the problem. Aspell-fr was installed before I dist-upgraded to squeeze. The first command: aspell list then enter a word with an accent such as «demandé» then ctrl+d. Aspell outputs the same word indicating that it is misspelled. The second command: aspell check text.txt where text.txt contains a few words with accents. All are reported as erroneous.
