Tried another solution as recommended for http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=611750 Downgrading kernel from linux-image-2.6.32-5-686_2.6.32-30_i386 to linux-image-2.6.32-5-686_2.6.32-29_i386 (from -30 to -29) seems to work much more reliably than the other workaround.
