I'm using also IMAP with SSL against a Cyrus IMAP4 v2.2.3 (on OpenBSD) and can get mails with attachments without problem (tried right now with a pdf one). This bug looks like your servers are reaching timeout, can you post the relevant part of the log wrt the mail with attachment download?
