tags 614502 + help upstream thanks The xlwt code contains remains to support ancient Python versions. 2to3 works (tried by switching from distutils setup to setuptools setup and adding use_2to3=True to the setup() invocation. Unfortunately byte compilation fails. I think upstream will have to fix the problems or somebody using xlwt more than me should come up with a patch that could be sent upstream.
