Package: gscan2pdf
Version: 0.9.32~1
Severity: normal

I had done some scanning, OCR'ing, and gimp editing ('Tools>User
defined>gimp'),
and was ready to save. Then I made a mistake. I clicked the first floppy disk
icon ('open gscan2pdf session file'), but should have clicked the second icon
('Save').
Entered the (new) file name, 'gscan2pdf' couldn't find that file, and cleared
the working window. My scans & edits were gone.

Clearing a user's scans & edits would make more sense if the
mistakenly entered session file existed, but to wipe out actual work in
favor of a nonexistent session file is not what users expect.

Luckily I did not close 'gscan2pdf' and therefore was able to use 'lsof' find
where
it kept its temporary files, and recover the edited scan & the base OCR. New
users
wouldn't know how to do that however.

Remedy: if the user's in danger of opening a new file over unsaved work, a
warning
such as "Caution: lose all your unsaved work?" (This would require the program
to
first check if there was any unsaved work.)

Hope this helps...
