Package: usbmount Version: 0.0.14 Severity: wishlist
Hi, in the context of multi-user free-access machines it is difficult to use usbmount with VFAT drives (an extremely common case !): - with default mount options, a user cannot write to his USB drive - if the admin adds an umask to the mount options, then files have to be world writable, which is not secure against remotely logged users Therefore one have the choice between inconvenient or insecure. Could usbmount look at which user is logged locally on the machine and mount VFAT drives with option uid=USER_LOGIN ? There is a slight complication when there are several users logged locally. You could either: - do nothing - or mount with uid=root - or try to guess which user is the drive owner, for instance the user using X on display :0 (if any, or the user of the first VT) -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (100, 'unstable'), (99, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.12-1-686 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Versions of packages usbmount depends on: ii lockfile-progs 0.1.10 Programs for locking and unlocking ii udev 0.068-2 /dev/ management daemon usbmount recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
