Hi Ola,
I see. Please do not diminish the relationship to a recommendation. If pptp-linux expects binutils, it needs to declare a dependency on it.

I looked at the code. It does look like there's nothing pptpsetup can do itself. I found an alternative for binutils strings in 9base, which is much smaller, but also much less known. Anyway, I think the good solution is to develop a proper way for pppd to report what it supports and doesn't support. Using a strings-like tool on the binary is inefficient and fragile.

Hi Filipus

It is due to the pptpsetup program. See
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=587506

What I can do is to move it to a recommend.

Best regards,

I saw that pptp-linux depends on binutils, but I can't see a good reason
for that. Is it possible to get rid of that dependency? binutils is 11
MB installed.
