I am agree that this option is present, but if you don't establish connection
via pppoe when install system you must configuration installed system by hands.
E.g. without any ncurses based and trivial tool.

In other words:
You must need to dowload and install pppoe conf package separetely, when it was
needed later. This maybe for some reasons:

1. After some period computer was lose an standart lan connection and have only
pppoe access to the internet.
For example ADSL modem can be in pppoe mode (gateway mode) or by few seconds
can be configured in bridge mode, when pppop connection will be required. And
user will need a simple tool to configure a pppoe connection.

2. Provider change connection type.
For example Internet Provider initially provides PLC Modem that provide an LAN
connection to the DHCP server.
And later provider switch user to the LAN Connection (without modem).
But access to the internet can be only over when user create an pppoe
connection over provider lan.

3. User change provider.
First provider provides an direct connection to the its gateway.
Second provider provides internet only by pppoe over they devices.

4. And many others reasons.

I am sorry for such a comparison, but windows xp have an standart simply tool
by default.

I think that debian must have this package by default install of netinst iso
and others

When i am installing that has installing not connected to the modem when
installing system may be required

But when i am installing gateway for user, i must copy this package manually.
