After re-reading your message it seems that you're looking for a different thing, sorry for closing this bug with the wrong reason. I'm reopening this bug, accept it and set it as a wishlist feature, we need to forward this upstream and ask the mutt-dev to error if mutt cannot import the messages, rather than mangle the messages.
