(CC'ing Andreas because he was originally in a X-Debbugs-CC and Luk, because he recently brought up a related thread up [email protected]) I am seriously considering to apply part of this check; namely the part that checks if the dependency_libs field is empty. The other part (checking for a .la file itself) I am not really sure what to do about. If this is important to you, I would probably split it into another bug and tag that moreinfo until we have a reliable way to of knowing if a .la file is redundant or not. I believe this would be vastly better than status quo, where Lintian does not have a check for either of these things! Especially now that the dependency_libs is a possible blocker for Multi-Arch.
