Package: python-pyside-dbg
Version: 1.0.3-1
Severity: wishlist

   * cjwatson wonders if python-pyside-dbg really needs to be so obscenely
enormous
<cjwatson> (as my mirror sits there trying to download it - and of course if
it fails partway through then debmirror has to start from the beginning)
<OdyX> cjwatson: I would be happy to get that reduced. Patches welcome. :-)
<OdyX> (not producing the debug flavour would divide the (huge) build time by
two)
<cjwatson> could it not just be split into -dbg packages for each of the
runtimes? that way at least an interrupted mirror wouldn't have to start so
much earlier
<cjwatson> or is there some reason it needs to be a giant conglomerate?
<OdyX> there is no particular reason besides "-dbg is useless in most cases,
so for the rare cases it is actually needed, having only one package does sound
saner"
<OdyX> cjwatson: I'm not particularily opposed to the idea; though I'm not
certain the work it'll need is worth it.
<OdyX> cjwatson: please file a bug; I'll think about it (I'm /away now).
  <cjwatson> OK. I wasted 192MB of download on a 1Mbit link, so I do care :-)
  <cjwatson> er, 1Mbit/s

(on a good day - today is not such a day)

<OdyX> (the split won't make the sum of the packages' sizes smaller than the
big blob size it currently is)
<cjwatson> no, but it would reduce the penalty for interruption
<cjwatson> debmirror doesn't repeatedly download the same file, but it
doesn't deal efficiently with interrupted downloads of a single very large file

My smoking ADSL line would appreciate it. Thanks. :-)
