Thanks for your help pinpointing the bug! Even though it looks likely that this is a bug in rrdtool, it still affects my users, and it's a quite obnoxious thing to do, spamming the user every five minutes. So unless the rrdtool packages are fixed before Etch, I want to have some sort of workaround in place so that the Munin package appears to function well.
