The first time gnomint is used, all works as expected.
Then after using the "Quit" entry in the Certificates menu, and restarting,
a smallish (probably 320x320) window appears which expands to a size almost
filling the screen, which then crashes and dies with the error message
The program 'gnomint' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.

Investigation reveals that when using the Quit menu entry, gnomint
writes an entry to the ${HOME}.gconf/apps/gnomint/%gconf.xml
with a ridiculously large set of values for the window size.

Editing the values here does not change the behavior of gnomint crashing,
but if the gconf-editor is started and the key for apps/gnomint/size
is changed from the above value to something sensible greater than 320x320
then gnomint can be launched.
Exiting via the "Quit" menu entry continues to cause the wrong size
value to be saved and therefore should not be used.

but was merely dismissed by the package maintainer without
thorough investigation with the comment
"I guess that the problem you were experiencing temporary and
probably not related to gnomint itself, hence i'm closing the bug."
