Package: debhelper Version: 8.9.0 Severity: wishlist Recent toolchain versions support compressed debug sections, using zlib. When applied to the -dbg packages, it increases the size of the package by a few percents, but reduces the installed size by roughly a factor three.
I therefore think it's a good idea to add an option to dh_strip to enable compressed debug sections, passing --compress-debug-sections to objcopy. It might not be the default yet, as even if the toolchain is ready, some packages might not be fully ready.
