This is really poorly worded.  The bug report has nothing to do with
symbolic links.

The `problem' is that when in posix mode, bash doesn't try the current
directory if no directory in CDPATH yields a valid directory name to
change to.  I interpret POSIX to require that.  If you want bash to fall
back to the current directory, include `.' as the last entry in CDPATH.
