As described here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?threadid=343910 The mentioned binutils version requires the following kernel patch in order to build: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/devel/binutils/linux-2.6-seg-5.patch I get exactly the same errors mentioned in the post and the solution proposed seems to solve the problems.
