Thank you for pointing me to xflock4. Unfortunately because xfce4-utils depends on xscreensaver | xlockmore | xlockmore-gl, the default for the power manager is to use xscreensaver, unless xlockmore or xlockmore-gl are chosen (which isn't much better). Either the recommends should include the various 'simple' screen lockers, preferably with higher priority so that the semi-broken xscreensaver + power manager isn't the default state. I know people want screensavers, but IMNHO shipping a broken config (which probably will be the case unless xscreensaver is modified to play nice with power manager, or xfce4-screensaver or something like gnome-screensaver is written) is worse than not having pretty graphics that actually do the opposite of what they're called (screensaver).
