Attempting to include the fancytooltips package (see minimal example below) fails because a package required by it (eforms.sty) is not available. According to http://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=eforms.sty&searchon=names&suite=all§ion=all http://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=acrotex&searchon=names&suite=all§ion=all this file (which is part of the acrotex package) is not packaged by Debian at all. observed behaviour: failure to compile, error message ! LaTeX Error: File `eforms.sty' not found. work-around: install acrotex from mirror.ctan.org into local TEXINPUTS path conclusion: The package itself is *not* broken (it's slightly outdated with respect to the current version at CTAN, but that's another matter), but it depends on additional software which is not available within the Debian packaging system. recommendation: Either take fancytooltips out of texlive-latex-extra or (better) include acrotex as well. The acrotex distribution licence is 'LaTeX Project Public License, either version 1.2 of this license or (at your option) any later version' according to the header of http://mirrors.ircam.fr/pub/CTAN/macros/latex/contrib/acrotex/acrotex.ins -- Package-specific info: If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries (latex, pdftex, metafont,...), or if the bug is related to bad or wrong output, please include a MINIMAL example input file that produces the error in your report. Please run your example with (pdf)latex -recorder ... (or any other program that supports -recorder) and send us the generated file with the extension .fls, it lists all the files loaded during the run and can easily explain problems induced by outdated files in your home directory. Don't forget to also include minimal examples of other files that are needed, e.g. bibtex databases. Often it also helps to include the logfile. Please, never send included pictures! If your example file isn't short or produces more than one page of output (except when multiple pages are needed to show the problem), you can probably minimize it further.
