I don't have any better advice than "ionice -c 3 nice find / -name core\*". If a core dump was produced, it would be in a directory with source files. Maybe "last" could give some hint of who was logged in at the time and one could find some leads that way. Otherwise I would suggest we treat it as an unsolved mystery, close the bug, and hope it happens again. ld.bfd certainly has some known segfaults that this could have been: e.g., see Bug#422147, #577691, #274929, #607220, #425553.
