In the course of bug 635970, I discovered the metacity functionality for setting multiple keybindings for a particular function, by creating a gconf key suffixed with _list containing a string for each keybinding. I added a key /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/close_list, as a list containing the string <Super>c, and it worked during that session. However, the next time I attempted to log in, metacity failed to start.
