Do you remember which version you upgraded from? It would help me
pinpoint when this broke.

Could this be related to bug #326640? I thought bootlogd was disabled
by default, but am probably mistaken.

Earlier, errors were undetected in these but scripts. So some of
these errors might have been there all the time.

I do not see these errors, so I am unsure how to reproduce and solve
them.

Can you try to modify init.d/bootlogd to run bootlogd with strace, and
add 'set -x' at the top of the script to get more output on where it
fails? This would make it easier to guess what the problem might be.
Also, have a look at the reported sysvinit bug reports, as there are
several related to bootlogd. Perhaps your problem is one of these?

What is the message? Do you use SELinux? I suspect this is unrelated
to the bootlogd issue.
