I thought that might be the case, so I have tried 'auto' as I said I would.
And the problem persists - with the ping in place, I get two exports
mounted, without the ping, I get only one export mounted.
If you have any questions you would like to ask about my networking
setup, I will answer when I can. As I previously said, it was pure
Debian Squeeze 6.0.2, entirely configured by the debian-installer, but
now with an edit to change "allow-hotplug" to "auto". I do not have
resolvconf installed, all relevant hosts are listed in /etc/hosts.
