The new upstream version 2.71, which I am packaging, offers a similar
possibility. "r2e pause 2" will stop considering updates, and "r2e
unpause 2" will resume them.

This is not really what you ask as old messages will be pushed, but
you can filter out these ones with the new "X-RSS-Feed" headers.

Feel free to reopen this bug if I misunderstood something :)
