Package: awstats
Version: 7.0~dfsg-2
Severity: wishlist

I installed the awstats package on my laptop, so that I could manually
generate a few reports from the logs on my server. It came with a pile
of enabled-by-default cron automation that I'll have to disable, and it
put the actual awstats binary in /usr/lib/cgi-bin/awstats.pl .

Please consider splitting awstats into two packages, one containing
awstats itself (no cron or CGI, binary in /usr/bin/awstats), and one
containing the various automation suitable for installing on a web
server (with a symlink for the CGI). You might even consider putting
the cron job and the CGI script/configuration in separate packages,
since people want either one or the other but not normally both. I'd
suggest naming the packages "awstats", "awstats-cron", and
"awstats-cgi"; if you leave the latter two merged, you could call it
"awstats-auto" or similar.

This would make awstats much easier to use for people who just want to
run awstats manually, or via their own custom automation.

Thanks,
Josh Triplett
