Interest, but not enough skills, I'm afraid. I made some packaging changes to pootle during spring 2011. They're staging in SVN. The most difficult problem is indeed handling the upgrade from pootle 1 installs. We very briefly discussed about this with Nicolas at DC11...and indeed, we regret that we don't have a "pootle2" package to escape this problem.
