There is no suitable configuration in fontconfig now, then "～" glyph would be showed incorrectly as "□" with Evince, default PDF viewer in GNOME desktop environment. This issue is not Debian specific, so I've added tags as upstream. I've created conf file to resolve this issue as attached. However I'm not sure that the number of file name is good or not, so you can change it. Please include the patch.
