solid-pop3d can run either in "daemon"-mode, or even in "inetd"-mode without a traditional internet super-server. On my system, for example, I use it in "inetd"-mode together with the stunnel4 package (in exec-mode) in order to establish a pop3s server (even with tcpd support). Therefore, I would suggest that this package only recommends the package update-inetd instead of depending on it.
